Step 1. Fill the form

It all begins by filling the Fly-tyer application form underneath or with sending an email to us guides@goodhooksflyshop.com.

Joining our fly-tyer program is easy, pretty close to sending a CV but with out all of the drama.

We will then give you an address to send your flies to. Make sure they are your own original patterns. We do advice you to send more than just one fly, since we all know you might get hooked on a rock on the first cast. Yes it happens to all of us. Please keep in mind that we do not return the test flies to the designer.

You will need to tie your flies by using hook brands and models approved by us, you will get a further information in our returning email. Simply because trying to catch a GT or a trophy size pike with a hook not built for the task, just simply doesn’t happen.

Step 2. Testing

To land a spot in the fly shop is definitely not for us all, but you should give it a try! All flies will go trough a testing period. We need to know how they fish, swim, endure and in order to gather enough information for our customers searching for ideal patterns for their next dream fly fishing trip.

Keep in mind that during winter testing periods can be longer since finding open water in the Nordic countries may be challenging. During winter/early spring we test flies especially built for the tropics, GT´s, tarpon, milkfish, bonefish and triggerfish.

Step 3. Agreement

When your flies have successfully passed our testing period we will then sign an agreement concerning quality, amounts and the pattern recipes - together with a proper information concerning our commercial fly-tyer program and the future collaborations.

All of this is just to assure that the arriving fly patterns are tied the same way as the one that passed the trial.

Step 4. Send it

Take your time to tie the patterns, do not rush. We all know the saying “make it nice or do it twice”.

Packaging your flies is as important as the tying process, in order to last the shipping. We advice you to use ziplock bags inside hard cardboard boxes. Pack all flies individually to ziplock bags to ensure avoiding tangle. There are more ways to keep them safe, find a way that suits your patterns shipped.

The agreed patch of flies will be send to the same address as the test flies.
